The Number Seven in Scripture

To say that the number seven appears prominently and frequently in Scripture is a bit of an understatement. Notice some of those appearances in Scripture:

Seventh day God finished his creative work (Genesis 2:2)

God blessed the seventh day and made it holy (Genesis 2:3)

Noah sent out birds every seven days to check for dry land (Genesis 8:10, 12)

Jacob served Laban in seven year increments (Genesis 29)

Egypt experienced seven years of plenty and seven years of famine (Genesis 41)

The Israelites were to eat unleavened bread for seven days (Exodus 12, 13)

The priests and the altar were to be consecrated for seven days (Exodus 29)

The priest was to sprinkle things with blood seven times (Leviticus 4)

Count seven Sabbaths to Pentecost (Leviticus 23)
